Guidance Care holds Team Teach trainer status in house. That means the people delivering the training are our own staff rather than a visiting trainer booked once a year.
Team Teach is a de-escalation-first approach. The large majority of it is about noticing early, changing the adult’s behaviour, and keeping a situation from escalating at all. Physical intervention is the last part of the course because it is meant to be the last thing that happens.
Training in house changes what the course can be. A trainer who knows the homes, the teams and the young people can work through situations that actually happened last month rather than a generic scenario. New staff can be trained when they arrive instead of waiting for the next date in the diary, and a team can ask for a refresher the week they need one.
It also means the standard is ours to hold rather than something that arrives and leaves. Our approach to safe support sets out how this works in practice.
