The Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 received Royal Assent on 29 April 2026. It is a Department for Education Act, and it is wide: it makes provision about the safeguarding and welfare of children, about support for children in care or leaving care, about the regulation of care workers, and about the regulation of establishments and agencies under Part 2 of the Care Standards Act 2000.

That last part is us. Children's homes are registered and inspected under that framework, alongside the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015.

We are reading the Act properly rather than reacting to headlines about it. Where it changes what is expected of a provider, that will show up in our Statements of Purpose and in how we train and supervise our teams, and we will say so here when it does.

If you are a social worker and you want to know how a particular change affects a placement you are considering, ask us directly. We would rather answer a specific question than publish a general reassurance.

Read this in your language

Two ways to read these pages in another language.

Your browser can translate this page

This is the better option: the translation happens on your own device, so nothing you read here is sent anywhere, and it works on every page of the site.

Or open this page in Google Translate

This opens in a new tab on Google’s website. Google will be able to see which page you are reading.

These translations are made by a computer. Guidance Care has not checked them, and some words may be wrong. If anything here matters for a child’s care, please ask us - we will arrange an interpreter so nothing depends on a machine translation.
